THE BIG HEADLINE
A divided Ninth Circuit revived DOJ’s subpoena to gender-care telehealth provider QueerDoc, a precedential win for the administration’s records campaign—but not an order to turn over patient files.
In a 2–1 decision, Judges Carlos Bea and Daniel Bress reversed the district court’s decision to quash the subpoena on improper-purpose grounds. The case now returns to the trial court, which still must consider QueerDoc’s overbreadth and undue-burden objections.

BORDER DETENTION AUTHORITY WIDENS. DOJ’s Office of Legal Counsel said troops may arrest suspected trespassers just outside military-controlled National Defense Areas if they leave before apprehension. The opinion is advisory—not a court ruling or a general grant of immigration-policing power.
EAST WING PLANS GO GOLD. Axios highlighted new Supreme Court-filing renderings showing gilded seals and gold-trimmed interiors in the White House ballroom project; an administration declaration says the project is 65% complete and targets August 2028. Even the injunction came with a mood board.
A MASSACHUSETTS MAYOR FACES FEDERAL CHARGES. Lawrence Mayor Brian DePeña was arrested and charged with wire fraud and money laundering; prosecutors allege he misused about $1.5 million from a pandemic business loan, including more than $880,000 for mortgages and $90,000 for his 2021 campaign. The charges are allegations, not findings of guilt.
